Withdraw
How you turn shielded ZEC from Ironwood into ETH on Robinhood Chain, what a withdrawal makes public, and what happens when a step fails.
A withdrawal turns shielded ZEC from your ZATS Market account's Ironwood pool into ETH on Robinhood Chain. The ETH goes to your account's own Robinhood Chain address, or to any Robinhood Chain address you enter.
What a withdrawal spends
A withdrawal spends Ironwood notes only: the ZEC your account holds in Ironwood.
- The Withdraw page shows what Ironwood can spend, under Spendable in Ironwood.
- ZEC in Sapling or at the transparent address stays where it is.
- With an empty Ironwood, the page says there is nothing to withdraw yet. Deposit first, or send ZEC to your Ironwood address.
A withdrawal's amount is public
The conversion takes ZEC at a transparent Zcash address. The amount of a withdrawal is therefore public once the ZEC leaves the shielded pool. The Withdraw page says this before you confirm.
Before you start
- Your account must be unlocked.
- Ironwood must hold ZEC.
- Every earlier payment from Ironwood must be on chain. The app sends one payment from Ironwood at a time.
Withdraw ZEC
Before you withdraw, accept that the amount becomes public once the ZEC leaves the shielded pool. Make sure the destination address is right before you confirm.
Enter the amount
On the Account page, select Withdraw. Type the ZEC to withdraw, or select Max for the most that Ironwood can pay with the network fee.
Choose where the ETH goes
Leave Send the ETH to empty to use your own Robinhood Chain address. To send elsewhere, enter an
address on Robinhood Chain: 0x and forty characters.
Read the quote
Read the quote and the network fee, then select Review.
Confirm with your password
Type your password and select Withdraw. Your password opens the Zcash key for this withdrawal, and your browser proves the transaction itself. Change amount takes you back to the first step.
While it works, the Withdraw button shows what it is doing: Reading your notes, Opening the route, Proving the transaction, then Sending. No key or recovery phrase leaves your browser.
If the price moves
The app takes a fresh quote when you select Withdraw. If the price moved against you, the app shows the new amount you would receive and asks you to confirm again. It sends nothing until you confirm.
One withdrawal at a time
The app sends one payment from Ironwood at a time. Until an earlier withdrawal or purchase is on chain, its notes still read as unspent, and the network would refuse a second payment built on them. If one is still settling, the review step says: "Your last withdrawal is not on chain yet. Wait for it, then send the next one."
Follow the withdrawal
After you confirm, the tracker follows the withdrawal. The tracker is the panel that shows each step and its state.
- The app stores the signed transaction in this browser before it sends it. If the tab closes, the app sends the stored transaction when you open the app again. The same transaction can land only once.
- The steps run from Sent from Ironwood to Arrived on Robinhood Chain. The working step says how long it usually takes. View opens a step's on-chain transaction on a block explorer.
- The wait clock shows how long you have waited and how long a withdrawal usually takes.
- You can leave the page. Transactions lists the withdrawal under Withdrawals.
If a step fails
If a step cannot complete, the ZEC comes back to your Ironwood address. The tracker then shows Refunded to your account.
Part of a refund can stay on the other side of the bridge. The tracker then says: "Part of this refund is still on the other side of the bridge. Bring it home to Robinhood Chain."
- Select Bring it home.
- Type your password. It signs one transaction.
- Select Bring it home again.
A refund brought home is a transaction of its own. Transactions lists it with the deposits.
No word from the rail means the conversion has not reported for a long time. The on-chain transactions on the page show what the chain holds, and Bring it home can appear there too.
Messages on the review step
A withdrawal that fails on the review step stays there, with one message.
