What zZEC is
zZEC is Zcash on Robinhood Chain, backed one for one by real ZEC. How the backing works, how to check it, and what you can do with your zZEC.
zZEC is Zcash on Robinhood Chain. ZEAL issues it: every zZEC is backed by one real ZEC held in a public reserve on the Zcash chain. The $ZATS payout is paid in zZEC because one asset means one cheap transfer to each holder.
ZATS does not issue zZEC and does not run its reserve. ZATS uses it.
The backing
The reserve is a Zcash address that anyone can look at. The zZEC contract records how much the reserve holds and how much zZEC is owed, and it refuses to create zZEC beyond what the reserve holds.

Open the reserve's address on a Zcash explorer and read its balance.
Read what is owed on Robinhood Chain
Open the zZEC contract on the explorer and read its supply and the amount it reports as owed.
Compare the two
The reserve should hold at least what is owed. On 22 September 2026 it held 111.24% of it.
What you can do with zZEC
- Hold it. No zZEC can be created without real ZEC behind it.
- Take it back to ZEC. ZEAL redeems zZEC for real ZEC, sent to a Zcash address you choose, from 0.01 ZEC. The request is made on the zZEC contract.
- Spend it. Swap your zZEC for ETH on Robinhood Chain, then deposit the ETH in ZATS Market. It lands in your account as shielded ZEC, which pays for eSIM, AI credit and the rest. The market itself does not take zZEC.
What rests on trust
zZEC is ZEAL's, not ZATS's. Two things about it rest on ZEAL:
- The reserve figure. The contract cannot see the Zcash chain, so one key at ZEAL reports what the reserve holds. Anyone can check that report against the reserve's address, as above.
- The keys. Each of the contract's roles is held by a single key.
If zZEC ever stopped moving, the distributor would keep every holder's credit until payments could go through again.
